The following was published in the Deseret News, 29 May 1924, p. 3:

Reuben Gardner of West Jordan Dies

WEST JORDAN, May 29--(Special)--Reuben Gardner, a resident of West Jordan for 60 years, died at his home here late Wednesday night after a lingering illness. He was born in Mill Creek ward, Utah, July 29, 1853, son of the late Bishop Archibald Gardner and Jane Park Gardner who were among the most prominent pioneers of Salt Lake Valley.

Mr. Gardner was a farmer by occupation. Quiet and retiring in disposition, he did not participate largely in public affairs but devoted most of his attention to his farm and home life. He was widely known and held in high esteem. He is survived by 12 brothers and 11 sisters.

Funeral services will be held in the West Jordan ward meeting house Sunday, June 1, at 1 p.m. with Bishop William J. Leak presiding. Interment will be in the Salt Lake city cemetery under the direction of C. I. Goff. The body may be viewed at the residence from 10 to 12:30 on the day of the services.

Harriet Armitage: First marriage to Henry Larter

Prior to her marriage to Archibald Gardner in 1857, Harriet Armitage had been previously married to Henry Neech Larter. Below is a copy of their marriage record from the General Register Office in London. Henry and Harriet were married in Shipley, Yorkshire, England on Christmas day in 1849.

Their first daughter, Marintha Althera Larter, was born on 8 December 1851 in Bowling, Yorkshire, England.

When Marintha was only two months old, Henry and Harriet emigrated to the United States and settled for a time in St. Louis, Missouri. Sadly, the St. Louis, Missouri LDS Branch records state that Marintha died on 25 August 1852 at the age of 8 months and 15 days. (page 1, entry #25, FHL #001,945)

Elizabeth Dowding: Birth record

In 1991, I requested a copy of Elizabeth Dowding's full birth record from the General Register Office in London. Many members of the family record her birth on 5 Aug or 15 Oct in 1851 or 1852. This record documents that she was actually born on 10 November 1851 in Great Cheverell, Wiltshire, England.
